Crealde Art Field Trip

Today we had a very exciting field trip to Crealde Art Studio.  The students had an opportunity to watch them spin a pot on the wheel, create their own clay penguin creation, tour the sculpture garden, visit a President Obama museum display and sketch their favorite piece.

The student's worked so hard on their clay projects!

The finished penguins.  After they dry the students will be bringing them home!

Shelby sketched Scout - a favorite of many students!

Lara did a GREAT job sketching her favorite piece of art work - a Bald Eagle made from iron

Snow Globes

As a Holiday Take-Home Project, the students decorated a snow globe to show a family tradition.  Then they shared special things they do to celebrate the holidays.

Let's Explore Unit Project

The students created game boards to show their understanding of the stories we read in our Let's Explore Unit.  They wrote 4 questions for each story as a review and on the game board they drew characters from the story.  I was very impressed with all the hard work they put into their games!

Play Dough Lab

Today we visited the Science Lab.  The students conducted an Engineering lab in which they had to design a process for creating high quality play dough.  They followed the following model:

IMAGINE
We brainstormed as a class the materials that we need. What possible solutions exist to this challenge?
PLAN/DESIGN
1.      Then the students worked in engineering teams to create a recipe.
 C  CREATE

1.     We reviewed the design challenge.
2.     Then students develop their own play dough recipe.
3.
TEST
The students tested their product to see if it was quality play dough.

IMPROVE or Re-Design
Some groups found that they needed to redesign their play dough because it was too watery or too sticky.  With the help from the "expert" group they were able to successful turn their mixture into quality play dough.

It was a messy process but we all enjoyed the learning experiences!

Here's the actual lab my district provided for us:  Play Dough Lab
