Our story this week was about animals camouflaging in the ocean. We read: How to Hide an Octopus and Other Sea Creatures by Ruth Heller. After reading the story, we organized the factual information about each animal we read about and their unique way of camouflaging. The students created an octopus mobile.

Wind in Your Sails
We explored wind energy by creating our own sailboats since they are a common example of wind energy. Students discovered which sail shapes makes the fastest boats. Once that sailboats were built, we had races with each other to see which sails worked the best!
We are Bucket Fillers!
In our classroom we focus on things we are: kind, respectful, responsible, bucket fillers! The students have opportunities to show these by filling each others buckets! Every Friday they take their notes out and read them. I love seeing their smiling faces as they read their notes...as if you can almost see the rainbows above their heads:)
The buckets came from the "wedding" section at JoAnn Fabrics. I had a wonderful parent who put the cute faces on the buckets for me.
I made these cards and had them printed at Vista Prints (GREAT site if you haven't visited/used it yet...I highly recommend you do!) At the beginning of the year, we read the book "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" Then the students filled out their cards.

100th Day Celebration!
Last Friday we celebrated the 100th Day of School. Students came to school wearing 100 items of their choice. Then the created their very own $100 bill. We spend the afternoon reading a story, making patterns, designs out of the numbers 1-0-0, making paperclip chains to measure with, and enjoying a 100 snack:)
