Valentine's Day Fun!

Wow!  My students had so much fun yesterday that they were still talking about it today!  I am so glad for these opportunities to make learning fun:)


Here's a few snapshots of our day…

 My students enjoyed sorting their Valentine's Greeting Cards based on their attributes.  Wow were there some great homemade ones.  I am so privileged to be working with such creative students this year!  The activity directions and resources for this activity can be found at my Teacher's Notebook Store: My Sweet Valentine

They also enjoyed a read aloud of "Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse."  Then we talked about how special everyone in our class was and filled out a chart of what makes each person special.  They also reviewed the events from the story by completing a bubble map of Mouse's Valentines.  These resources are called: Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse

Then they had a chance to think about their own special qualities and made a Valentine of what they thought Mouse would give them.  These turned out adorable:)

Valentine's Day Bags and Writing Fun!

We are having so much fun!  Today we prepared out Valentine's Bags using the Puppy Love glyph from Glyph Girls on TPT.  I think they turned out sooo cute.  My students added their own bit of creativity into the patterns:)  My students can't wait until the bags are filled with the cards they are writing/making for each other.

I can't wait until tomorrow… my students will begin their "technology" Valentine's Day writing activities.  They are going to write a V-Mail Message and a V-Text Message.  You can get your own copy of these writing activities (and a mailbox one, too) from my Teacher's Notebook store just click on the picture below!

My Secret Heart

We have been working on adjectives, describing words and properties of matter.  To help practice these skills I created this fun little activity to do around Valentine's Day.  The nice thing about this project is most of it can be done at home (the actual decorating of the heart) and then it only takes a little class time to work on the adjective thinking map and descriptive sentences.

Here's how the activity works:

First my students will decorate a large heart.  They will do this part at home and can be as creative as their little minds will allow them using stickers, paint, glitter, glue, etc…

Then they will bring their hearts to class (hidden in a folder or bag) and fill out their adjective thinking map.  Once that is done they will write some descriptive sentences and try to get the class to guess which heart is theirs!

My Sweet Valentines

Looking for an activity for your students to do with their Valentine's Cards?  


I have my students sort and classify their cards based on attributes such as cards with super heroes and cards that don't have super heroes.  They record their findings on a data sheet as well as answer some post classifying questions.

Valentine's Day

We had a very fun and busy day on Monday.  I was so excited to share all these neat activities with my class - a huge THANK YOU goes to all the wonderful teachers who have shared ideas on their blogs!

These are my 2 new favorite books!

We started out with Literature in the morning.  We read 2 stories together and created projects to go along with them.  Then, we talked about how they are similar (and today we'll create a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast them - we just ran out of time yesterday).

Our afternoon was filled with math skills.  The students predicted, sorted, measured, graphed and categorized candy hearts and their Valentine's cards.  We even had a class challenge to see who could pick up the most candy hearts using chop sticks!
