Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse

I just LOVE Valentine's Day - maybe it's all that red and pink hanging up:)

I would like to share another fun activity I do with my students during this lovely season!

I read aloud the story: Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse and then my class creates some cute mice of their own.

I've done all the work for you - all you need to do is click on the picture below to go visit Teacher's Notebook and pick up your packet:)

My Secret Heart

We have been working on adjectives, describing words and properties of matter.  To help practice these skills I created this fun little activity to do around Valentine's Day.  The nice thing about this project is most of it can be done at home (the actual decorating of the heart) and then it only takes a little class time to work on the adjective thinking map and descriptive sentences.

Here's how the activity works:
First my students will decorate a large heart.  They will do this part at home and can be as creative as their little minds will allow them using stickers, paint, glitter, glue, etc…

Then they will bring their hearts to class (hidden in a folder or bag) and fill out their adjective thinking map.  Once that is done they will write some descriptive sentences and try to get the class to guess which heart is theirs!

Please visit my Teacher's Notebook store to pick up the packet if you'd like to do this with your students!

My Sweet Valentines

Looking for an activity for your students to do with their Valentine's Cards?

I have my students sort and classify their cards based on attributes such as cards with super heroes and cards that don't have super heroes.  They record their findings on a data sheet as well as answer some post classifying questions.

If you'd like to do this activity with your students as well - check it out at Teacher's Notebook by clicking on the picture below.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Community Workers Project

I hope everyone is doing well!  I had a chance to add my Community Workers Project to Teacher's Notebook.  I hope you have time to check it out.  I send it home as a take home project and the kids just love it!  It's a great way to extend a unit on Community Workers and Goods & Services.

Don't forget to check out my previous post to see finished products from my class!

Candy Bar Awards

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday.  Just wanted to let you all know I had a chance to finally finish and upload my candy bar awards to Teacher's Notebook.  I hope you'll take a look at them!  This is my favorite part of all of my end of the year activities.  The smile on my students faces are priceless when they get their awards.  I keep it a big surprise until just before I hand them out.

You can find them by clicking on the image below.

You can also see how I use them in my classroom by visiting a previous blog post.  Just click the picture below.

Arthur the Aardvark and Around the Town Wrap-Up

This was the perfect 3-day week!  It was perfect timing to end one unit in reading and prepare to start a new one.

Our Imagine It! Unit was called Around the Town.  I have to admit this is not my favorite unit (we used to have a fossils unit in Open Court and that was much more exciting).  But we got through five stories all focusing on places in our community.  To wrap-up our unit we made "Cameras on the Community."  My students wrote about what they learned from this unit and wrote about their favorite parts of our community.

Since we had a bit of flexibility this week - we were able to do a "book study" of Arthur.  Each student read at least 2 Arthur books before deciding on which one they wanted to do their report on.  Then they created their own Arthur's without any patterns - just their imaginations:)  I think they turned out sooo cute!

Contraction Surgery

Hello Everyone:)

My students perform "Contraction Surgery!"  This is probably one of my most favorite teaching days.  My class had such a great time discovery contractions.

The "tools" needed for surgery.

Happy New Year!!!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful break!  I've really enjoyed relaxing, family and friends!  Happy New Year to all my friends out there in blog world!

Before we left for Winter Break, my students made these adorable polar bears and wrote about their New Years resolutions.  I ran out of time but when I get back to school in a few days I am planning to display them in the hallway. (I got them hung up today!!!!)

Enjoy:)  You can find the New Years Resolution paper and the Polar Bear Patterns at Glyph Girls on TPT.  I just LOVE their cute ideas:)  Oh…and the party horns and tinsel were a great find at the dollar store.
